Halloween Weekend Shenanigans at Broken Compass

Halloween is right around the corner, which means it's time to plan your weekend around Broken Compass's events!

Join your human and canine pals as we kick off the weekend's events Saturday, October 29th with our 2nd annual Dog-O-Ween celebration and costume contest. We're giving out prizes every hour between 12-8 for the best dressed dog of the hour (human costumes in collaboration are encouraged but not required). Prizes include: our awesome Cycle Dog dog bowls, collars and leashes made from upcycled bike tubing, certificates for a day of doggie day care at the Dog House and doggie chew toys. Break out your pup's best Halloween attire and come celebrate with us!

The party continues on Sunday (October 30th) with specialty beer tappings and the scariest thought imaginable, the Chicago Cubs in the World Series! Starting at 1 p.m., we're tapping three specialty Halloween brews, including a dry hopped Irish Red, a Heath Bar brew (toffee coffee chocolate stout) and a Blood Orange Ginger. Beers will be tapped every two hours or until supplies last. Game three of the losingest World Series matchup in years (the Cubs haven't won a World Series in 107 years while the Indians took one home relatively recently - just a mere 70 years since they've taken home a title) is Sunday evening, and with that terrifying thought in mind, we'll be streaming a watch party starting at 6 p.m that evening. Join bartender and Cubs diehard Buckets as he stresses through nine innings of agonizing baseball.

We're capping our celebrations with a Halloween themed version of our Monday Night Potluck. Break out your scariest aprons and get creative! Pumpkin flavored dishes, dishes served out of pumpkins, cookies shaped like monsters, it all counts! Themed dishes win you bonus points, and the top three voted dishes receive free beer and growlers! Potluck starts at 7 and will go until 8:30-9 when winners will be announced.

Great American Beer Fest Week

Great American Beer Fest Week

By golly, another year has passed and we're revving up for the largest beer festival in the world, Denver's own Great American Beer Festival. The fest is celebrating its 35th birthday this year, and is bigger and better than ever.

Broken Compass is also bigger and better than ever (we admit some bias) and we're thrilled to be pouring once again at the fest. We're stoked to be in the Meet the Brewer section of the fest, in the new wing the festival added a year ago, and we'll be pouring some of our most deliciousest brews so track us down. Here's what we're pouring at the fest!

Coconut Porter - This delicious, GABF award winning porter is loaded with so much coconut you'll think it's a liquid candy bar. Not just for breakfast anymore.

Ginger Pale Ale - A classic pale ale spruced with fresh ginger and ginger tea, it's good for you - palate, body and soul.

FDFH Brown - A delicious twist on your typical brown ales, extra earthy hops give this brew a harmonic balance between sweet, nutty and hoppy.

Broken Compass IPA - The heart and soul of this intensely drinkable IPA is a heavy helping of Cascade and Centennial hops. The addition of Amarillo, Simcoe, Wilamette and Nugget in the dry hop makes for a smooth, balanced and refreshing IPA.

Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Brown - This beer is a delightful near molasses malt flavor. The imperial brown spent nearly a year aging in bourbon barrels from Breckenridge Distillery and came out on the other side dark, intensely delicious and just plain beautiful.

Come track us down to try all the delicious brews! We'll be pouring at booth W20 all four sessions, see you there!

Scooter's Smokehouse BBQ Coming To Broken Compass

Food is coming to Broken Compass this Thursday and Friday!

Nothing pairs better with beer in the summer than some good old barbeque, and our pals at Scooter's Smokehouse BBQ will be rocking a delicious food truck outside our taproom starting at 11:30 a.m. both Thursday and Friday this week.

It's not Buckets' dream of a Ham Pale Ale, but it's the closest thing to it. Come grab a beer and BBQ with us!

What Comes Before Part B? Partaaaay

As you have undoubtedly heard by now (because you are cool, hip and socially connected), we at Broken Compass are throwing a big ol’ birthday party to commemorate our wonderful second year of existence. To those wondering whether it’s tacky to throw yourself a party, we respectfully counter that as long as it’s badass enough (read: everyone is drunk enough), no one will care.

When we first opened our doors to the public in May 2014, we had one simple goal: brew beer to drink ourselves and sell the leftovers so we could make more. And so far, we’re happy to report that we’ve succeeded.

But we couldn't have done it without the love and support of our friends, families and, most of all, you, the awesome people of Breck, Summit County and broader Colorado. Hell, we’ll even throw some love to the Texans who have stumbled through our doors – you guys kick ass, too, except for that one cowboy who kept asking why we didn’t serve Bud Light. That guy most definitely sucks.

So – on Saturday, we cordially invite you in and around our taproom to celebrate your support these past two years and our continued ability to provide you (and ourselves) with excellent beer. We're roping off the parking lot around our building and having ourselves a block party.

Festivities begin at 10 a.m. with Kegs N' Eggs, which is exactly how it sounds except better. The first 50 beer drinkers through our doors will earn themselves a free breakfast burrito, catered by the one and only Five Star Catering. Burritos may be accompanied by our Chili Pepper Bloody Mary's, served up specially in the brewery to get your day under way.

Can't make it by 10? What the hell is wrong with you?! Kidding, kidding. Don't sweat it, because we're roasting a whole goddamn pig big enough to be devoured by approximately 300 people.

Did I say we? I meant we’re leaving those duties to the always awesome Moe's BBQ. Don't let us near fire. Or pigs, for that matter. That epic pork and a heaping plethora of sides will be ready around 1 p.m., and that entire delightful piggy is FREE. You’re welcome.

Can’t make it for the free pig? The nerve of you people. But we’ve got you covered, as Moe’s will continue to sell food on premise once the free pig is all gone, and we mean that quite literally, as last year we even ate the damn snout.

"Cool," you say, "I can always get down with some free food. But is that it?"

NO, THAT IS NOT IT.

You seem like an edumacated person – you’re reading this high prose after all, so that's a good sign – so you probably like music, right? Well, good news for your ears, because we have a whole day of awesome live music on tap. We're thrilled to be hosting a host (shut up) of local artists: Cody Wayne, DJ CYN, The Hollywood Farmers and Blue Monkey 22 will be serenading your eardrums all day long in the sweet sunshine behind the brewery.

"What the hell, this is starting to sound like a festival. Isn't this a brewery?” you mutter to yourself. "What about the actual beer?" Well, we're thrilled you asked, because Ford and Wiedmaier are laying it all out there for our birthday.

Along with all of our usual suspects, we'll be tapping specialty beers every two hours at an extra tap in the brewery. These will include favorites from our Wacky One Off Wednesdays like the Peanut Butter Banana Hefeweizen, Mandarini Houdini (Mandarin Double IPA), Mango Pale Ale and Chocolate Cherry Stout. We'll also be serving up beers at two separate stations behind the building, including an IPA-only station that will be pouring our Grapefruit IPA and a Mosaic IPA.

And heaven forbid us neglecting our fans of the Broken Compass Barrel Aged series – coming soon to a bomber near you. At the main bar, you'll find the finest selection of our Bourbon Barrel Aged FDFH Brown, Rum Barrel Aged IPA and the granddaddy of them all, a mother-f@%*ing Imperial Barrel Aged Brown that weighs in at a hair above 12 percent and will rock your socks off (even if they happen to be Broken Compass ski socks, which are notoriously non-rockoffable).

Last but not least, we'll finally be pouring a Nitro Coconut Porter at the main bar. You heard that right. Nitro. Coconut. Porter.

So, yeah. In summary, it's going to be a pretty fun time, and we’d be delighted if you’d stop by.

MNP Week 27: Buck Stardusky Steals The Show

We apologize for the lack of a Monday Night Potluck blog this week. The author's fat finger were too lazy to type after the heavy influx of potluck grub from last week's MNP. Congratulations to Buck Stardusky and his merry band of Coconut Curry Lentils which stole first place from the plethora of delicious desserts that created the sugar overload from which I am only now just crashing, and to Matt and Christine's cheesy Smoked Gouda & Pancetta Pizza (2nd place) and Jesse and Kate's Whiskey Chili (3rd place). See, that sentence was not even close to grammatically correct, this blog must end.

Shout out to all who brought delicious dishes! See you all this evening for German night!

Don Wood - Green Chili
Maria Mattera - Maria's Not So Mexican Chicken Enchiladas
Marisa R. - Peanut Butter Block
