Broken Compass Brewing isn’t satisfied throwing just one anniversary party every year. We had so much fun at our third anniversary party in May, we’re doing it all over again six months later - Oktoberfest style!

Join us Saturday, Oct. 28th for the first ever Broken Compass LostOberfest, another little offseason shindig we’re hosting to say a huge “thank you” to the people of Breckenridge, Summit County and all over Colorado/the world that have helped make the brewery what it is today.

You know what that means: free food - 75 free breakfast burritos for the first customers to buy beer and delicious brats hot off the grill at 1 PM - free and awesome live music, specialty beer tappings, human and dog costume contests and much more!

In Broken Compass tradition, we will continue our annual Dog-O-Ween, an always-entertaining costume contest for our four legged friends, as well as incorporate human costume contests throughout the day. We’re kicking off the costume festivities with the first Dog-O-Ween judging at noon, followed by another at 2 PM. The human costume contests will follow, with a group costume competition taking place at 3 PM and the final individual contest to take place at 7 PM. We are encouraging a $5 donation for each human and pup that enters the competitions so we can help give back to the community. All proceeds from the contests will be donated to the Summit County Animal Shelter, and prizes will be awarded to each competition’s champion! Prizes will include Broken Compass merch, gift cards and coupons to the Dog House.

For the first time ever, we are also hosting a cornhole tournament throughout the party, which will also benefit the Summit County Animal Shelter! Make sure you pre register for this 16-team, single elimination tourney, because it’s sure to fill up fast. Registration is $25 per two person team, and again, all proceeds go to the shelter! The tournament will begin at 1 PM and continue until we have a champion, who will earn themselves bragging rights and a $100 Broken Compass gift card!

And last but not certainly not least, we’re supporting the Red, White and Blue Combat Challenge Team, a collection of our fine firefighters at the Red, White and Blue Fire Protection District who will be competing in the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge in Louisville, KY this week! We’re donating the proceeds from all LostOberfest sales of our deliciously fiery Chili Pepper Pale Ale to the firefighters, as well as taking cash donations in jars throughout the taproom on the day of the party, so get your spice on!

All day long you’ll be serenaded by awesome live music, kicking off at 12 PM when Those Austrian Guys take the stage! The Austrians will be followed by a repeat performer from our second anniversary party, The Hollywood Farmers, from 2-4:30 PM. The So What Brothers are closing out the evenings jams with a rollicking, three hour set from 5-8 PM. And as always, DJ Crisp will be emceeing the entire event.

The free food will be served around 1 PM, with enough brats from our pals at Prost to feed around 400 hungry partygoers! Once we’ve exhausted those supplies, 5 Star Catering and Fifth Avenue Grill will also be offering Oktoberfest-style grub throughout the day at a food tent on site.

And finally, the beer! In addition to our standard 13 taps, we’ll be tapping five specialty brews during the party, starting at 11 AM when we tap our first ever Oktoberfest Marzen! We’ll then tap a new brew every two hours. The Marzen will be followed by (in order): Fruit Basket Stout (our stout fermented in a single malt bourbon barrel on cranberries, raspberries, apricots and cherries) at 1 PM, The Elvis (finally back! A peanut butter banana Hefeweizen) at 3 PM, a Curry Coconut Porter at 5 PM and finishing off with a Port Barrel Aged Imperial Brown at 7 PM!

We can’t wait for this smorgasbord of incredible activities, food and beers! Clear you calendars for Oct. 28th and get yourself down to Broken Compass, and make sure to check back often for more updates prior to the party!

2nd Place: Rare barrel tastings and a pizza party at the brewery! There's nothing quite as satisfying as slamming a nail in a barrel and watching smooth, delicious barrel aged beer trickle out.

Everyone else: You get to play trivia at Broken Compass every week!

Every answer: all of the fun) and an Oktoberfest party. There will be live music all day long, free sausages and sides for 400-500 people, specialty beer tappings, both dog and human costume contests, potentially a cornhole tournament and much, much more! It will almost certainly be tapped as our One Off Wednesday special release on Oct. 11th. You want this beer. You need this beer.

Pumpkin Themed Monday Night Potluck (Oct. 16th, 7 PM): It wouldn't be a proper October without a proper pumpkin-flavored feast at the Broken Compass Monday Night Potluck. Bring a pumpkin-inspired dish (or honestly, whatever dish you want to eat and share, pumpkins be damned) and win free growlers and beer! Potluck starts at 7 PM.

Come sample all our staffs chilis and vote for your favorite and least favorites (undoubtedly Lyndsey's). Don't worry about bringing any food (ok, you can bring a side if you want), we're hosting this event as another way to say thanks to our regulars and regular potluckers!

Wet Hop Pale Ale Specialty Tapping on Wednesday, Sept 13th!

Wet Hop Pale Ale Specialty Tapping on Wednesday, Sept 13th!

In one of our favorite annual traditions, Broken Compass is releasing a Wet Hop Pale Ale on Wednesday, Sept. 13th.

All the members of the brewery are even more excited about this year's batch, which for the first time ever was brewed with ingredients entirely from Colorado. One hundred pounds of the freshest, most delectable Cascade and Chinook hops from Highwire Hops, in Paonia, CO and almost 700 pounds of yummy grains from our pals at Root Shoot Malting in Loveland, CO were used in the brewing process to create the most locally sourced beer you can find! Cascade and CTZ hop pellets from Highwire were also used in the dry hopping of this brew, which will be particularly pungent as a result of those freshly picked hops used in the initial brewing.

For a little more background about wet hopping, or fresh hopping, we're going to turn you over to our bearded brewer Robert O. Wallace, a handsome hunk of a man whose beard actually increases his brain capacity for beer knowledge as well as his body capacity for beer consumption. It's science.

Join us Wednesday for this specialty tapping and get it the Wet Hop while it's at it's freshest and most flavorful!

Specialty Releases of Locally Sourced Beers!

Broken Compass will be tapping three locally sourced brews in the next two weeks, utilizing ingredients from all around Colorado. With harvest season upon us and Labor Day around the corner, we're thrilled to be able to show our appreciation for the awesome hard work all the farmers around the state put in year round with some delicious brews. Here's what we're tapping!

FARMER'S LAGER

A local twist on our classic Munich-style lager, finished with local ingredients from around Colorado. With cucumbers and basil from Palisade and a kiss of Colorado honey from Paonia added in secondary, it's the perfect one off to finish off the dog days of August!

When's it on tap? Wednesday, August 30th at 11 AM

How much do we have? One half barrel, aka, not very much.

PEACH IPA/DOUBLE IPA

Help us celebrate Labor Day Weekend with a delicious infusion of fresh Palisade peaches in our IPA and Double IPA!

When's it on tap? Friday, Sept. 1 at 11 AM

How much do we have? Three half barrels, aka, we will probably run out before the weekend is over

WET HOP PALE ALE

This year's hop harvest has rolled around and we're thrilled about our newest entry into our annual fresh hopped pale ale (brewed with hops harvested within 48 hours of the harvest). This year's version was brewed with all Colorado ingredients, with grains from Root Shoot Malting out of Loveland, CO and 30 pounds of Chinook hops and 70 pounds of Cascade hops from Highwire Hops in Paonia, CO.

When's it on tap? Watch for me the first or second week of September

How much do we have? 10 barrels, aka, lots and lots of delicious yummy beer that will hopefully last the month.

Best of Summit 2017 Voting is Open!

Calling all Broken Compass friends, beer lovers and family! It's that time of year again, when you get to share your voice and opinions with the rest of Summit County in the 2017 Best of Summit awards!

The 2016 awards were an unexpected success for Broken Compass, as we took home awards for Best Brewery, Best Beer Selection, Best Bar and Best Apres Ski! We're hoping to replicate that success in 2017, but we need your help! The brewery is nominated for six categories this year, including Best: Bar, Beers on Tap, Brewpub/Brewery (all three under the "Food" category), Apres Ski, Late Night Scene, and Place to Impress Out-of-Towners (all three under the "Arts and Entertainment" category)! We're a little upset (ok, more than a little) that we weren't nominated for "Best Card and Board Game Selection", or that in fact, there is no category for "Best Card and Board Game Selection", but we'll get over it eventually.

Please support our ongoing bid to be amazing by voting for us at summitdaily.com/bestofsummit. Voting is open through September 15th, so vote early and often! Follow the link and you'll have the chance to vote for any of the numerous Best Of categories all around Summit, and as always, please vote responsibly!

(just kidding, make sure you're voting as much as possible for Broken Compass)

Thanks for all the love and support!

The Broken Compass Team
