Specialty Releases of Locally Sourced Beers!

Broken Compass will be tapping three locally sourced brews in the next two weeks, utilizing ingredients from all around Colorado. With harvest season upon us and Labor Day around the corner, we're thrilled to be able to show our appreciation for the awesome hard work all the farmers around the state put in year round with some delicious brews. Here's what we're tapping!

FARMER'S LAGER

A local twist on our classic Munich-style lager, finished with local ingredients from around Colorado. With cucumbers and basil from Palisade and a kiss of Colorado honey from Paonia added in secondary, it's the perfect one off to finish off the dog days of August!

When's it on tap? Wednesday, August 30th at 11 AM

How much do we have? One half barrel, aka, not very much.

PEACH IPA/DOUBLE IPA

Help us celebrate Labor Day Weekend with a delicious infusion of fresh Palisade peaches in our IPA and Double IPA!

When's it on tap? Friday, Sept. 1 at 11 AM

How much do we have? Three half barrels, aka, we will probably run out before the weekend is over

WET HOP PALE ALE

This year's hop harvest has rolled around and we're thrilled about our newest entry into our annual fresh hopped pale ale (brewed with hops harvested within 48 hours of the harvest). This year's version was brewed with all Colorado ingredients, with grains from Root Shoot Malting out of Loveland, CO and 30 pounds of Chinook hops and 70 pounds of Cascade hops from Highwire Hops in Paonia, CO.

When's it on tap? Watch for me the first or second week of September

How much do we have? 10 barrels, aka, lots and lots of delicious yummy beer that will hopefully last the month.

Best of Summit 2017 Voting is Open!

Calling all Broken Compass friends, beer lovers and family! It's that time of year again, when you get to share your voice and opinions with the rest of Summit County in the 2017 Best of Summit awards!

The 2016 awards were an unexpected success for Broken Compass, as we took home awards for Best Brewery, Best Beer Selection, Best Bar and Best Apres Ski! We're hoping to replicate that success in 2017, but we need your help! The brewery is nominated for six categories this year, including Best: Bar, Beers on Tap, Brewpub/Brewery (all three under the "Food" category), Apres Ski, Late Night Scene, and Place to Impress Out-of-Towners (all three under the "Arts and Entertainment" category)! We're a little upset (ok, more than a little) that we weren't nominated for "Best Card and Board Game Selection", or that in fact, there is no category for "Best Card and Board Game Selection", but we'll get over it eventually.

Please support our ongoing bid to be amazing by voting for us at summitdaily.com/bestofsummit. Voting is open through September 15th, so vote early and often! Follow the link and you'll have the chance to vote for any of the numerous Best Of categories all around Summit, and as always, please vote responsibly!

(just kidding, make sure you're voting as much as possible for Broken Compass)

Thanks for all the love and support!

Great American Beer Fest Week

Great American Beer Fest Week

By golly, another year has passed and we're revving up for the largest beer festival in the world, Denver's own Great American Beer Festival. The fest is celebrating its 35th birthday this year, and is bigger and better than ever.

Broken Compass is also bigger and better than ever (we admit some bias) and we're thrilled to be pouring once again at the fest. We're stoked to be in the Meet the Brewer section of the fest, in the new wing the festival added a year ago, and we'll be pouring some of our most deliciousest brews so track us down. Here's what we're pouring at the fest!

Coconut Porter - This delicious, GABF award winning porter is loaded with so much coconut you'll think it's a liquid candy bar. Not just for breakfast anymore.

Ginger Pale Ale - A classic pale ale spruced with fresh ginger and ginger tea, it's good for you - palate, body and soul.

FDFH Brown - A delicious twist on your typical brown ales, extra earthy hops give this brew a harmonic balance between sweet, nutty and hoppy.

Broken Compass IPA - The heart and soul of this intensely drinkable IPA is a heavy helping of Cascade and Centennial hops. The addition of Amarillo, Simcoe, Wilamette and Nugget in the dry hop makes for a smooth, balanced and refreshing IPA.

Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Brown - This beer is a delightful near molasses malt flavor. The imperial brown spent nearly a year aging in bourbon barrels from Breckenridge Distillery and came out on the other side dark, intensely delicious and just plain beautiful.

Come track us down to try all the delicious brews! We'll be pouring at booth W20 all four sessions, see you there!

MNP Week 27: Buck Stardusky Steals The Show

We apologize for the lack of a Monday Night Potluck blog this week. The author's fat finger were too lazy to type after the heavy influx of potluck grub from last week's MNP. Congratulations to Buck Stardusky and his merry band of Coconut Curry Lentils which stole first place from the plethora of delicious desserts that created the sugar overload from which I am only now just crashing, and to Matt and Christine's cheesy Smoked Gouda & Pancetta Pizza (2nd place) and Jesse and Kate's Whiskey Chili (3rd place). See, that sentence was not even close to grammatically correct, this blog must end.

Shout out to all who brought delicious dishes! See you all this evening for German night!

Don Wood - Green Chili
Maria Mattera - Maria's Not So Mexican Chicken Enchiladas
Marisa R. - Peanut Butter Block
Jesse and Kate - Whiskey Chili! (3rd Place)
Buck Stardusky - Coconut Curry Lentils (1st Place)
Katie Schroeder - Chocolate Eclair Cake
Brittany Wilson - Cookies & Cream Cookies
Heidi and James - Oreo Cheesecake
Tom Greiner - Jimmy Dean Dip

The BC Patio Is Open!

Mountains. Sunshine. Wonderful, delicious, Broken Compass beer.

I know what you're thinking. That's heaven right? Nope. It's the brand new patio that's now open at Broken Compass (and probably heaven too, for most people).

That's right, you now have your long awaited chance to sip our beer in the beautiful Colorado sunshine with all the other charms you've grown to love about BC.

This weekend will be our soft opening test run on the patio (weather allowing of course), so bear with us while we work out all of the kinks while we strive to provide you with the great service you expect.

But for now, enjoy the outdoors and drink up!

Cheers!

MNP Week 26: Southern Food Is The Best Food

MNP Week 26: Southern Food Is The Best Food

On an evening when butter reigned supreme and southern foods took center stage, a mighty upset occurred at Monday Night Potluck.

Scalloped Sweet Potatoes Au Gratin With Bacon nailed down the top spot over the likes of Texas Oreogasm Brownies, Beer And Brown Sugar Chicken Wings and Peach Cobbler, among many other delicious dishes. And while Sweet Potatoes was not in itself a massive surprise champion, it's creator, Marisa R's inability to even taste her own dish due to a lactose (gluten? the author can't remember) intolerance made for a perfect Cindarella story.

Sweet Potatoes stood tall among a splendid field of 18 dishes, taking the top spot with 31 points. Claudia R's Louisiana Hacked Chicken and Rick and Maria's Pulled Pork Stuffed Potatoes (which, as you might imagine, inserted juicy pulled pork underneath a loaded baked potato...mind blown) fought tooth and nail to tie for second, while Taylor, Jess and Richard's Collard Greens turned in a strong showing for third.

It was a delicious evening. As always, the chefs and their dishes:

Claudia R - Louisiana Hacked Chicken (2nd Place)
Julie G - Southern Greens
Jim B - Jalapeno Cheese Cornbread
Jim B - Rosemary Garlic Potatoes
Marisa R - Scalloped Sweet Potatoes Au Gratin w/ Bacon (1st Place)
Taylor, Jess and Richard - Collard Greens (3rd Place)
Judson Chase - Broccoli Salad
Sarah - Phyllo Wrapped Brie
Seth - Grilled Beer & Brown Sugar Chicken Wings
Karlie - Everythang's Bigger In This Mac N Cheese
Matt C - Texas Oreogasm Brownies
Rick and Maria - Pulled Pork Stuffed Potatoes (2nd Place)
Katie and Christine - Peach Cobbler & Ice Cream
Lauren P - Sour Cream Banana Bread
Vickie R - Texas Caviar
Taylor and TJay - King Ranch Casserole
Slayley - Slayley's Cornbread
Brenda K - Chili w/ Fixins

MNP Week 25: Peanut Butter Cheesecake Bars Delight On Way To Victory

After a steady and slow climb through the Monday Night Potluck rankings, Katie Schroeder finally secured a potluck victory last Monday evening at Broken Compass.

On the first potluck of April, Schroeder's Peanut Butter Cheesecake Bars cruised to a first place finish over 13 delightful dishes. Cheesecake Bars, using a delicious combination of sweets with a base of incredible graham cracker and buoyed by a veteran potluck placement near the front of the tables.

Richard and Jess's Pork Chili finished second with 30 points, a strong finish after the duo's first place win during MNP Week 24, while Mcintosh's Chicken Cheese Broccoli narrowly took third with 29 points.

PB Cheesecake Bars win was not only for Schroeder, but for desserts all around, as some potluckers were beginning to speculate that desserts were unable to finish first.

Desserts will look to continue their streak tonight at the Southern Cooking themed potluck, where cobblers and pies should flourish.

Thanks again to all who brought food for the potluck, here are the dishes and their makers:

Gus - Shrimp
Kathleen/Lisa - Pulled Pork Sliders w/ Coleslaw
Linda/Tom - Brussel Sprouts & Bacon
Kate/Jesse - Spring Berry Salad
Marisa - PB & Honey Mittens
Mcintosh - Jen's Chicken Cheese Broccoli (3rd Place)
Andrei - Jalapeno Potato & Rice Soup
Katie Schroeder - Peanut Butter Cheesecake Bars (1st Place)
Tom Greiner - Buffalo Cheese Dip
Richard & Jess - Pork Chili (2nd Place)
Langleys - Chicken Tortellini w/ Cheese
Blair & Tain - Sweet Potato Curry
Hanna Holtzberg - Blackened Salmon
