Specialty Releases of Locally Sourced Beers!

Broken Compass will be tapping three locally sourced brews in the next two weeks, utilizing ingredients from all around Colorado. With harvest season upon us and Labor Day around the corner, we're thrilled to be able to show our appreciation for the awesome hard work all the farmers around the state put in year round with some delicious brews. Here's what we're tapping!

FARMER'S LAGER

A local twist on our classic Munich-style lager, finished with local ingredients from around Colorado. With cucumbers and basil from Palisade and a kiss of Colorado honey from Paonia added in secondary, it's the perfect one off to finish off the dog days of August!

When's it on tap? Wednesday, August 30th at 11 AM

How much do we have? One half barrel, aka, not very much.

PEACH IPA/DOUBLE IPA

Help us celebrate Labor Day Weekend with a delicious infusion of fresh Palisade peaches in our IPA and Double IPA!

When's it on tap? Friday, Sept. 1 at 11 AM

How much do we have? Three half barrels, aka, we will probably run out before the weekend is over

WET HOP PALE ALE

This year's hop harvest has rolled around and we're thrilled about our newest entry into our annual fresh hopped pale ale (brewed with hops harvested within 48 hours of the harvest). This year's version was brewed with all Colorado ingredients, with grains from Root Shoot Malting out of Loveland, CO and 30 pounds of Chinook hops and 70 pounds of Cascade hops from Highwire Hops in Paonia, CO.

When's it on tap? Watch for me the first or second week of September

How much do we have? 10 barrels, aka, lots and lots of delicious yummy beer that will hopefully last the month.

Best of Summit 2017 Voting is Open!

Calling all Broken Compass friends, beer lovers and family! It's that time of year again, when you get to share your voice and opinions with the rest of Summit County in the 2017 Best of Summit awards!

The 2016 awards were an unexpected success for Broken Compass, as we took home awards for Best Brewery, Best Beer Selection, Best Bar and Best Apres Ski! We're hoping to replicate that success in 2017, but we need your help! The brewery is nominated for six categories this year, including Best: Bar, Beers on Tap, Brewpub/Brewery (all three under the "Food" category), Apres Ski, Late Night Scene, and Place to Impress Out-of-Towners (all three under the "Arts and Entertainment" category)! We're a little upset (ok, more than a little) that we weren't nominated for "Best Card and Board Game Selection", or that in fact, there is no category for "Best Card and Board Game Selection", but we'll get over it eventually.

Please support our ongoing bid to be amazing by voting for us at summitdaily.com/bestofsummit. Voting is open through September 15th, so vote early and often! Follow the link and you'll have the chance to vote for any of the numerous Best Of categories all around Summit, and as always, please vote responsibly!

(just kidding, make sure you're voting as much as possible for Broken Compass)

Thanks for all the love and support!

The Broken Compass Team

MNP Week 20: Leap Day Potluckin

MNP Week 20: Leap Day Potluckin

The Leap Day edition of Monday Night Potluck did not fail to live up to its much-hyped billing.

In a meat and sweets filled affair, meats carried the day, as all three podium finishers narrowly beat out a plethora of scrumptious desserts on night that happens just once every four years.

One of the most parity-filled potlucks of the season ended with a three point spread separating the winners. Carolina BBQ Sliders, Stuffed Meatball Parmesan and Ham With Spiced Bourbon Cherry Glaze all duked it out for the top spot, each throwing haymakers into the late rounds. BBQ Sliders classic Carolina sauce brought a refreshing twist on the typical tomato based sauces Monday Night Potluck usually sees, and gave it an early advantage.

Not to be denied, Ham and Meatballs fought tooth and nail to hang with BBQ Sliders. Meatballs' chemistry with its delicious cheese stuffing (because really, when is meat and cheese not the right thing to eat. The answer is never. It's always the right thing to eat) caused problems defensively for the rest of the potluck's dishes, while Ham's delicious Bourbon Cherry Glaze made taste buds too drunk to care about what else they were eating.

In the end though, BBQ Sliders' depth proved to be too much as it eked out a 26-24-23 victory over Meatballs (2nd) and Ham (3rd). It was a meat off for the ages.

Honorable mentions go out to all the delicious desserts that finished off the meal for the bloated and delighted potluckers.

Dever - Southern Pimento Cheese

MNP Week 15: Asian Cabbage Salad Brings Home Title For Healthiness

MNP Week 15: Asian Cabbage Salad Brings Home Title For Healthiness

As many potluckers nursed Broncos hangovers, a few elite chefs plied their trade yet again at Broken Compass for Monday Night Potluck.

And in a result that was eerily similar to the Broncos AFC Championship victory, Asian Cabbage Salad narrowly clipped Full Loaded Baked Potato Soup 20-18 to secure Tommy Peters's first MNP victory. It was unclear which competition was more exciting (we're trying to be impartial. Obviously potluck was way more exciting than a damn football game).

It was a tight match from the kickoff, as both Cabbage Salad and Potato Soup showed the qualities that got them to this elite level of cooking and eating. Potato Soup edged ahead to an early lead, receiving crucial contributions from bacon, cheese and scallions off the bench. Not to be outdone however, Cabbage Salad gamely hung with the soupy juggernaut and finally inched into the lead late in the fourth quarter with help from a touch of soy sauce and a missed extra point, staking claim to what is likely the healthiest victory in the history of MNP.

Three dishes finished in a tie for third, as Cinnamon Apple Cookies!, Broken Compass Chili Pepper Pale Ale Five Cheese Spinach Artichoke Dip and Feta, Red Onion, Hot Pepper Jam Sliders w/ Pepper Jack pleased palates and stomachs alike.

Thanks to all who brought food and good fun! As always, here's the chefs and their creations:

Lauren P. - Cinnamon Apple Cookies! (T-3rd Place)
Sarah S. - Fully Loaded Baked Potato Soup (2nd Place)

MNP Week 9

A severe Thanksgiving hangover kept the number of dishes at Monday night's potluck down, but couldn't do anything to curtail the deliciousness of the food itself.

Six dishes took the field at Monday Night Potluck, and despite a fierce battle for the top three spots, Lucy's Monkey Bread finally ran away with a 36 to 24 to 20 victory over International Chicken Chili (made by Randy Koenig) and Green Chile Cheesy Potato Casserole (by Tommy Peters).

Monkey Bread showed off the chemistry of a veteran unit, as the sugary, cinnamonny, gooey goodness gelled at the perfect time to pull off the MNP victory (for those of you who haven't had their eyes opened to the wonders of monkey bread, aka me, imagine a gooey doughy cinnamon roll type dish except way way better)

Meanwhile, the Thanksgiving leftover category was claimed by Da Palace's Send For It Turkey Soup, which monopolized the category and crushed the spirits of its competitors.

Thanks again to every who brought food to the potluck! As always, here are the chefs and their dishes:

Tommy Peters - Green Chili Cheesy Potato Casserole (3rd Place)
Randy Koenig - International Chicken Chili (2nd Place)
Da Palace - Send It For Soup (Turkey Leftovers Winner)
Lucy - Monkey Bread (1st Place)
Maggie - Baked Pineapple
Team Lovely - Garlic Bread, Nuff Said

MNP Week 7: Desserts Can't Stop A Victory For Healthy Foods

Monday Night Potluck history tells us that meats (and particularly bacon) get the job done when in matters most.

In the fourth quarter, when the chips are all on the table, throw some bacon on the table (thick cut, hickory-smoked bacon please) and you're all but guaranteed a victory.

Well, the times, they are a-changin.

Three non-meat dishes took home hardware this week, included what is believed to be the first ever podium finish for a vegan dish. Even nine desserts couldn't stop the health food craze.

Grandma Fannie's Butternut Squash Lasagna led the health charge, tallying 39 points en route to a first place finish for potluck rookie Robyn Canton. The Bro Chefs' vegan dish, Ullrs Undeniable Potatoes, took home second place with 32 points. And sugary, unhealthy dishes could not totally be shut out, as Debbie's Chocolate Eclair Cake finished third with 30 points.

As always here are our phenomenal chefs and their phenomenal dishes:

Abbe - Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Muffins
Debbie - Chocolate Eclair Cake (3rd Place)
